Review: THE RED LEDGER: PART 1 by Meredith Wild

The Red Ledger 1 by Meredith Wild
He’s death for hire…

Some people measure life in hours. Days. Weeks. I measure mine in kills. A covert military mission gone wrong robbed me of my memory and any link to my past. This is my existence now. I execute and survive. Nothing more, nothing less. I was ready to write Isabel Foster’s name in my ledger of unfortunate souls until she uttered the one word that could stop the bullet meant for her. My name.

She knows my face. She knows me. She’s the key to the memories I’m not sure I want back. Now nothing is simple. I still have a job to do, and my soul isn’t worth saving. I’m not the man she thinks I am. I can’t love her. And sparing her life puts us both in the crosshairs.

MY REVIEW

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Isabel Foster has known heartache. The man she loved, the man she made plans for the future with, suffered a tragic loss and while she thought they were getting closer, they were drifting apart. He enlists in the army and the distance between them grows wider. She gets a Dear John letter and hasn’t been able to move on for six years. Yeah, she’s been intimate with other men, but not truly because her heart and soul belongs to a man she’ll never see again. Until she does…

Tristan Stone is a man without a past. As a matter of fact, for the last three years he’s been going by Tristan Red and that’s all he’s ever known. Well, as far as he can remember. He knows he was in the military, that a mission went wrong, and that he had the unique opportunity to start his life over again. No memories. No life. No worries. He kills, he gets paid. No fuss, no muss. So why is it that on his latest assignment, he can’t seem to pull the trigger. Something about his latest mark draws something out in him and for the first time, he hesitates. And then he realizes that this mark knows him, in a way that he doesn’t know himself.

Then it becomes a race to stay one step ahead of the people who contracted Tristan to kill Isabel. They’re running around, trying to figure things out, all while Isabel has to deal with the fact that the Tristan she fell in love with is gone. But maybe the new and improved Tristan can be just the man to make her feel complete. I’m definitely intrigued by this story. This couple has captured my attention and the promising suspense of their storyline is going to have me eager to keep reading. I’m loving it!!
