Lethal and charismatic, vampire Lachlan McRae woke on his first night to death and devastation—his clan slaughtered, his fortress destroyed. One hundred and fifty years later, driven to avenge the murder of everyone he loved, he’s ready to hunt down and kill the one vampire who was behind it all—Erskine Ross, the Vampire Lord of Scotland.
Beautiful, smart, and cool under pressure, Julia Harper is determined to prove she’s more than a child of wealth and privilege. When a lifelong friend is murdered by vampires, she steps out of her role as an analyst for the CIA, and sets out to take down one of the most powerful men in Scotland—the deadly Erskine Ross.
Recruited by a friend to arrange contact between Lachlan and her best friend Cyn’s mate, the powerful Vampire Lord Raphael, Julia soon discovers that she and Lachlan want the same thing . . . Erskine’s death. But when Erskine sets out to kill Julia instead, she and Lachlan find themselves fighting for her life, and for a love that neither one of them can trust.

Wow!! Just... give me a minute... I'm still pretty blown away. When a new-to-me author taps into everything I could possibly like in a story on the first go, I'm hooked. Lachlan is the 13th book of the Vampires in America series and I've got to go back and read the first twelve! This Book!
✫ a huge, sexy, confident, powerful vampire (Lachlan) who is bent on revenge against the vampire who wiped out most of his clan
✫ a beautiful, intelligent, determined woman (Julia) who is looking to wreak vengeance against the vampire who took out her best friend
✫ tons of extremely hot tension and intimacy. It took a while to get there, but when it FINALLY happened, it was HAWT many times over
✫ the action scenes were amazeballs
✫ side characters that I'm actually interested in learning more about
✫ an ending that hints at something else to come, but also made me wish for more of an ending for this couple
✫ a story that gave me hope that I'd be seeing these people again
✫ meeting Raphael and Cyn has me eager to read their book
I love how Reynolds wrote about vampires in a way that I've never experienced before. Where some of their features can be found in other literature, so much of what made them wonderful were the unique characteristics she gave them, such as their mystical powers. I'm intrigued by it all! One of the other great things about this book was how it read like a standalone, but I can see how the stories all tie together. So I was able to be introduced to this author's writing, to this vampire world, and to be tempted to read everything else in this series. If you love vampires, action, and love, you'll enjoy this book as much as I did.
