Review
Honestly, reading about Marcus Guzzi and how he found his happy ending was bittersweet. Not only was he the last Guzzi son to find his happy, the next in line to be Boss, the one woman who could make him complete was also the last daughter of the Marcello family to remain single. So in a way, a sad and yet oh so happy way, the author was wrapping up two legacies and it both broke my heart and made me freaking ecstatic!🎶 How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad 🎶
Marcus Guzzi was the eldest son of Gian Guzzi, the underboss, the only sibling without a twin, and basically a carbon copy of his father. There was never any doubt he'd take over la famiglia once his father took a step back and he'd looked after his siblings for forever because 'family first'. He put everyone before himself and yet when the opportunity for more in his life came, he couldn't resist. His attraction to Cella was almost like an obsession. What seemed important before paled in her presence. He easily fell in love with her, her daughter, and the life that they could have together. He just had to convince her.
Just because he's a made man doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings here. So while you figure out what you want, please remember that there are more people than just you in the equation. - Lucian
Cella Marcello was a character I'd broken my heart over already. I remember when her husband died. I remember how his death further fractured her relationship with my bae, John. I think the author did a brilliant job of showing how she dealt with that pain and learned to live again, for herself and for little Tiffany. While it didn't go too deep, the steps she made, full of such pain, were impossible to ignore. Her grief was like a living and breathing entity and it was no small thing for her to survive and then thrive. Cella became such a beautiful person and I couldn't help but cheer her on while she found a new love. She made mistakes along the way, but that was to be expected because she was still afraid. It made her breathtakingly human and made her story that much more worthwhile.
I will admit that my absolute favorite character in this story was Tiffany. Bethany-Kris created such a sweetheart of a child who made me smile like a bleeding fool at my kindle. The relationship she developed with Marcus just made me swoon harder for him and tipped the scales on how I would rate this book. It was all too easy to give Marcus's story all the stars!!
