-- The Boston Underground --
I'm a huge fan of mafia romance and I quite enjoyed Bella J's take on the mafia game in Boston!1. Mafia Princess (3.5 stars) - This story was all about Lorik Stone for me. This Albanian Boston detective rocked me! Things weren't right in his town and he had a feeling that the Valenti family were behind it all. He brings in Karina Valenti to sweat her, find out what she knows, and continue his investigation. What he didn't count on was the instant attraction they would both feel. It was intense and uncontrollable and utterly forbidden. They were on opposite sides and yet, their chemistry couldn't be stopped and it made for some excitingly sensual scenes. With a bit of suspense and a rival mafia family's machinations, this story turned out to be great!
2. Mafia Prince (2 stars) - Dante Valenti had once been in love. He was so in love that he was willing to leave his family behind in order to keep her. He was willing to do whatever it took to make Layla happy. And then one day, when he's ready to go, she disappears without a trace. Five years later, she's back and she's hanging off the arm of his enemy. What the heck is going on?
I actually didn't like this story as much as the first one. Dante was irrational and uncontrollable. He was loyal to a girl who did everything to discourage that loyalty and turned on his brother for doing what ANYONE who cares about you would do. Not cool, bro. The heroine, Layla, was terrible. Her reasoning for doing what she was doing kinda made sense, but didn't. I couldn't condone her behavior or choices. No one has the right to deny a parent access to their child. You just can't do that. Unless they're evil or something. Dante definitely wasn't so her actions were unwarranted. This whole story was ridiculous.
3. Mafia King (4 stars)
Just like me, he was broken too. He was my pretty, broken doll.
this story delved into a much darker and desperate part of life, a life that the Valentis never dreamed of facing. Antonio, as the eldest, has taken over leadership of the family, but like his siblings, he's fighting his own demons. As a dominant, he strives for control, possession, and the wonder of a unique relationship with a submissive. However, one such relationship gone wrong continues to haunt him. It was the one time he lost control and he's afraid of ever being put in that position again. And then Jane Doe comes along. She was the embodiment of everything he could ever want, yet shouldn't have.
It was in this moment that I realized everything had to happen exactly the way it did for us to end up here within this perfect space in time. If I hadn't been this broken and ruined, if he hadn't been so tormented and troubled, we never would have experienced what we just had... together. It was my pain. It was his regret. It was our salvation.
Found in a cage, naked and docile, she was obviously a sex slave. And her master wants her back. But Antonio isn't willing to ever let her go. He wants to own her while showing her the pleasures she's never known. Their journey together was painful and provocative. The author did an amazing job with them and I can't wait to see what happens to the elusive Master V.
4. Mafia Queen (3.5 stars) - Picking up where the last book left off, this started off a bit slow. Doe was getting used to living in freedom while being haunted by the memory of Master V. She knows he hasn't given up on getting her back and it's all a waiting game of when he'll make his move. Antonio has plans of his own because he agrees that their fight with the Russian isn't over yet. He's beefed up security and taught Doe how to defend herself. There's nothing hotter than torturing someone with the man you love! Mafia Queen was full of suspense, intrigue and secrets. It was about a man willing to do anything necessary to protect his love and his family and a woman who was beaten and degraded and who clung to her inner strength, finding redemption. This story was heartbreaking and beautiful and my only complaint is that I wanted more from the ending.
