MY LAST TEN 5-STAR READS

November 17, 2020

Happy Tuesday and welcome to another TTT! This meme is hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's theme is Characters I’d Name a Pet After. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a 'pet' kind of girl and so this theme is not something I can even begin to try. I love animals, but I'm allergic to just about everything but a goldfish, so... I decided to do my own post this week and since I've been in the worst book funk in all my years of reading, I thought I'd reflect on the books that gave me good vibes this year to give myself a good pickmeup.
five star reads
1. Any Day Now by Lani Lynn Vale - I loved the concept of this story, the characters, the drama... everything. It spoke to me in ways that gave me a spark of life and this author will remain one of my go-tos when I'm stuck in the grey.
2. Leo by Jay McLean - I freaking hated the heroine, but adored the hero. This story oozed angst. I'm talking next-level, I'm-gonna-tear-my-hair-out, look-my-hands-are-around-her-throat angst. So I had to give it all of the stars!
3. Don't Hex and Drive by Juliette Cross - Damn, but this author knows how to write incredible paranormal romances. Swoon-worthy heroes, their equally worthy heroines, and plots you can sink your teeth into. Chemistry, connection, and concrete feels are everything to me!
4. Heartache and Hope by Jay McLean - This book broke my heart in so many ways. It was about a ton of miscommunication and teenage drama that led to more drama and while I'm not a huge fan of this, it made me feel so it gets my praise.
5. First and Forever by Jay McLean - same as above, but at least they got a happy for now ending.
6. Burning Ash by N.J. Walters - I just found out about this author this year and I'm wondering why I was left in the dark about her. Her books, at least the three I've read so far, are AMAZING and I can't wait to read more from her!
7. The Princess Knight by G.A. Aiken - This is another author I found this year and her fantasy romance is so freaking good. I've also read a couple of her paranormal romances under another name and can officially say that she is someone you need to read!!
8. Officially Over It by Lani Lynn Vale - Whether you view it as a second chance romance or a friends-to-lovers one, this story was a winner no matter how you spin it. It messed with my emotions HARD, but it was so worth it.
9. Guardian's Grace by Rebecca Zanetti - It's Rebecca Zanetti. Do I really need to say more? I'm in love with her Dark Protectors series. Every time I've got a grasp on it and can envision the way it ends, she throws me for a loop, leaving me eager to learn more. There's always something new, the story remains fresh, and I'm here to read it all.
10. Driven by Rebecca Zanetti - Again, it's RZ. Her Deep Ops series is all about the suspense and this one had more of a thriller aspect to it than the others. It didn't hurt that I finally got the chance to read Angus's story.

Am I the only one suffering from reader's block? Is that even a thing? If you've got a TTT, leave a link to it below so I can check out your post too. Happy reading!

xo, Natalie

  1. My reading has been so down lately, so I can totally relate! I'm glad these were good ones! :)

  2. I also did something different for today's topic. I'm not great at naming anything and only came up with things like Fluffy. So I just accepted this wasn't the topic for me haha. I've also been in a funk off and on this year. I just keep feeling kind of indifferent about books. Like it wasn't bad or anything I just wasn't invested. I'm so glad these were all five star books for you! There's nothing better than finally loving something after a funk.

    1. It's funny, but I had a cat named Fluffy LOL! Yeah, although this year hasn't been the greatest for reading, I'm just happy I found some reads that blew my mind. There really is nothing better than having a book pull me out of a funk and I'm crossing my fingers that I find another one before the end of the year. I'd hate to go into 2021 still in this mood.

  11. This year has been a struggle, hasn't it. I've had a few occasions when I hit a reading slump. Thank goodness for my ARCs that forced me to read. :)
